Ok. I have been quiet, but not without reason, I assure you. If you are the kind that is so sympathetic, you are reading the right blog! Am desperately in need of people to feel so sorry for me. I have exams the next two weeks. Thanks for that 'understanding sigh.'
If you should know, yours truly is currently in Italy, Rome. Once am done with the exams, it will be Zambia here I come. More than ever before, I am convinced that being away from one's country makes one's heart grow fonder! I just love Zambia. And I never use the word lightly. I mean, there is just something about zed that you cannot experience anywhere else. Home, I guess, is where your heart is and I have no doubt where mine heart is! So I will be in Zambia in the next two weeks. Of course you know That I will be roasting maize and eating musozya. I do not mean to brag but, hey, truth is truth. After two or three months in Zed, I will, sadly, have to travel to Washington to face more books, assignments and exams. Yaa, more of the same.
Sometimes am tempted to do what some boy did recently. You see, after the Christmas break, the said boy was not ready for school and so came up with this brilliant plan. He glued his arm to the bed so he couldn't get out of bed. Folowing morning, the police and medical people were busy trying to 'unglue' him while he so serenely continued enjoying this computer games. How so childish, but there are times when it is this very quality in children that I have had to admire. I mean those times when I have felt like screaming, dancing and just 'being me' without feeling guilty!' Aah, being a grown up feels so childish! Why can't we just be? Ever felt like dancing naked before that mirror? Ever felt like screaming after acting kind and so grown up? Now you know what am talking about.
Tomorrow Zambia take on Cameroun and we just have to wish them well!! But before I go, this has to be said; I wish we didn't have to write any exams! To all those who have to undrgo the torment of exams, know you are not alone! We suffer together but let me be the first to meet the lunatic who first thought of the phenomenon called examinations!
Now I have to go to bed. I wish you and yours well. A prayer for me as I make some huge transition will be appreciated.(ok, am assuming you have some faith). As the Italians would say here, and have said to their Prime Minister Prodi, 'grazie e arrivederci!'

Maureen is capable - my foot!
This is one of those times when I try to do two things at a time: watching the Zambia vs Sudan game and writing this blog. Well, Zambia hit the net first but.... Anyway, another 45 minutes, gruelling as they might be, this game will be over. And when it has come to pass, we will still have to deal with matters of bread and butter!
Am I the only one who felt something somewhere must be wrong after reading today's papers? I mean did you read this morning's papers? Someone so passionately feels Maureen Mwanawasa has what it takes to be our next president. And one Fr. Miha, had his foot in his mouth as he claimed Maureen belongs to the kitchen. Not a very nice thing to say about any woman, I might add. However, we must not miss the point. What is it about us Zambians that make us feel because Mwanawasa is not going for a third term, his legacy must continue, nonetheless?
Now this really really irks me. I mean, what has Maureen done to convince a section of the Zambian society that she is ripe to be our president? I mean, apart from the fact that she is the currrent president's wife, what reason does anyone have for thinking she has what it takes? Excuse me but it seems to me something is seriously wrong here. What makes us think once people have gotten into power, we have a moral duty to keep them there, regardless of how they fare? Are we suffering from an over-dose of the kings and headmen at whose service we had to be till death did us a favour?
And in my wicked mind a tape of Mwanawasa passing his judgement on the first lady keeps playing; "Now let me warn some people coming from State-House! They think we are all fools and they are 'God-Sent' to be our Saviours. They think we are all fools out here in Kalingalinga and Dundumwezi!" In case you think I am being petty, the germany philosopher Kant puts it thus; "Whenever you decide to act in a certain manner, at the same time wish that your decision will be a universal law so that all people would act as you have done." So Mr. President, the onus is on you to challenge your wife the same way you have challenged everyone else. And while am at it, just might as well do a good job of it; "and if you use government vehicles to do your campaigns, we will part company!" Don't get me wrong, am not advocating for divorce but aren't we supposed to take responsibility for what we say?

Prophet of Doom
I guess I will not blow my top if you decide the label suits me. But, truth be told, I woke up this morning thinking about the goings on in Ghana. Yes I mean just that, the African Cup of Nations. Something tells me this will be another disappointing showing by the chipolopolo boys!
I mean, look at the happenings in the build-up to the tournament! First, Tana misses the plane (or was it the plane that missed him!). Then Mbesuma is declared unfit. No, that's not all for it surely gets worse. After some politicking, Tana and Nkausu are sent to join the team enroute to Ghana, only to be told they are not part of the game plan! Wish I could call it poor planning but from where I stand, it does not even qualify to be called 'planning.'
So here I am, poor me. Every time Zambia is taking part in this or other tournament I tell my heart not to pay attention, not to care, for fear of the obvious. But does this my old heart learn? Let's just say, despite myself, I have to wish the lads all the best as I, in the same breath, urge my heart to summon the strength I know it will surely need to survive the coming torment..... Do I hear you say I might be wrong? Tell you what, this is certainly one case I hope I am!!
